House rewires

Wiring wears out. If your property still has rubber or fabric-insulated cables, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, or sockets that feel warm or show scorch marks, it's probably time for a rewire.

We carry out full and partial rewires on houses and flats. We plan the work room by room to keep disruption down and leave your home tidy at the end of each day. A full rewire on a typical three-bedroom house usually takes one to two weeks.

When the work is complete you'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate confirming the new wiring meets current standards.

Fuse board and consumer unit upgrades

A modern consumer unit with RCD protection cuts the power in a fraction of a second if something goes wrong, helping protect your family from electric shock and fire.

If you still have an old fuse box, a board without RCDs, or you're adding new circuits for an extension, a new kitchen or an EV charger, an upgrade is usually the safest option. We test your existing circuits first so there are no surprises, then fit and certify the new board.

EICRs and electrical safety checks

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a thorough inspection and test of the fixed wiring in a property. It identifies anything that is damaged, worn or no longer up to current safety standards, and grades each issue so you know what needs attention.

Landlords in Wales must have the electrical installation tested at least every five years, as set out in the Welsh Government guidance for landlords. For owner-occupied homes, Electrical Safety First recommends a check at least every ten years, and many people book one when buying or selling a house.

Lighting installation

Good lighting changes how a room looks and works. We install LED downlights, pendant and feature lights, under-cabinet kitchen lighting, outdoor and security lighting, and dimmer and smart controls.

Switching to LED lowers your running costs and means far fewer bulb changes. You can see some of our finished work in our photo gallery.

EV chargers, sockets and new installations

Charging an electric car at home is cheaper and more convenient than relying on public chargers. We install home EV chargers, check that your supply and consumer unit can take the extra load, and fit the charger where it suits your driveway.

We also add and replace sockets, fit USB sockets, run new circuits for kitchens, extensions, garages and outbuildings, and wire media walls with built-in TVs and electric fires.

Electrical services FAQs

How often should I get an EICR?

Electrical Safety First recommends an inspection at least every ten years for an owner-occupied home. Landlords in Wales must have the installation tested at least every five years, or sooner if the previous report says so.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Warning signs include old rubber or fabric-covered cables, a fuse box with rewireable fuses, scorch marks around sockets, flickering lights and circuits that trip often. If you're unsure, an EICR will show whether your wiring needs replacing.

Do I need to upgrade my fuse board?

If your board has no RCD protection, still uses rewireable fuses, or you're adding new circuits such as an EV charger, an upgrade is usually recommended. We'll test your installation first and explain your options.

How long does a full rewire take?

A full rewire on a typical three-bedroom house usually takes one to two weeks, depending on the size of the property and access. We'll give you a clear timescale before work starts.

Can you install an EV charger at my home?

In most cases, yes. We'll check your supply, your consumer unit and where you park, then recommend a suitable charger and the best place to fit it.

Do you provide certificates for your work?

Yes. You'll receive the right certificate for the job, such as an Electrical Installation Certificate for rewires and new circuits or a Minor Works Certificate for smaller jobs.
